The Beaconsfield Vernissage - Sunday 29th April 2012

Picture
Members of the Twinning Association committee gathered at Marlen Lihou's home in Beaconsfield to view the paintings to be exhibited in Langres in the Remp-Arts exhibition that ran from May 5th to the 20th.  'Vernissage', meaning 'varnishing' is the name given to the celebration held before the opening of a major exhibition, where the artists make the finishing touches to their works, for example giving them a final coat of varnish (though Turner, apparently, often used the occasion to make more substantial alterations!)
Pictured here are, from left to right, Marlen at her easel, Peter Sanders, BTA Treasurer, and Rod Jones, who drove Marlen and the paintings to Langres.

REMP-ARTS exhibition set up day - Thursday 3rd May 2012

Picture
Marlen and her paintings arrived safely in Langres and the exhibition was set up in the chapel of the College Diderot in the centre of the town. Marlen stayed with Langres residents Josette and Jean-Claude Pernet, who recently brought Langres cheese to the Cheese Makers' Market in Beaconsfield. They are pictured here with Marlen in front of two of her paintings, 'First to the Flag I' and 'First to the Flag II'.

Also assisting with the set up was the President of the Langres Twinning Association, Madame Brigitte Siméon, seen here with her daughter Chloé alongside Josette, Marlen and Jean-Claude, in front of Marlen's other two paintings, 'Calm dawn' and 'Calm sunset'.
