Later, Steve Jones presented gifts to the Mayor of Langres and to the Mayors of the other two towns twinned with Langres, Ellwangen and Abbietegrasso.
In the evening, a torchlit procession made its way through the streeets to the Salle Jean Favre where the fireworks were held.
The Boules Party on Sunday 14th September was a great success - thank you to all who came and took part, and thank you to the Beaconsfield Advertiser for a lovely photo and write up.
The Langres group visit to Beaconsfield - what a weekend!
We were delighted to welcome a group of eighteen people from Langres spanning three generations. They arrived by coach on the evening of Thursday 30th October 2014 and spent two wonderfully sunny days with us, departing in the pouring rain on Sunday morning!
Friday was a full day out in London, with a tour of BBC Broadcasting House in the morning followed by a more informal walk around Kensington Palace in the afternoon and ending up with a brief but moving stop at the Tower of London to see Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at sunset and hear the Roll of Honour. Throughout the day we had the benefit of commentary in French on all the exciting landmarks of London that we passed en route.
Saturday was the Beaconsfield day, with a guided tour of our famous model village in the morning, and in the afternoon a ceremony of remembrance and dedication at the Free French Memorial in Shepherds Lane, Beaconsfield. The memorial remembers the Free French who convalesced in Beaconsfield. The memorial was renovated by Dick Smith, our Town Crier as part of a BTA initiative. Also in attendance were Father Francis Higgins of St Teresa's and the Reverend Jeremy Books of St Mary's.
At 3pm we held a civic reception and afternoon tea in the Town Hall for the Langres visitors, BTA members and supporters. Gifts of locally produced products were presented to Mme Sophie Delong, the recently elected Mayor of Langres, and Mme Brigitte Siméon, President of Langres Twinning.
In the evening the Mayor of Langres was invited by Beaconsfield Mayor Steve Jones to light the Round Table Bonfire at the Cricket Club. The fireworks were attended by the Langres visitors and BTA members. It was a fantastic display.
A post-fireworks Bonfire Night themed supper at the Fitzwilliams Centre with a 'Flames of Friendship' candle display lit by the children and teenagers in the Langres party completed the weekend programme of events.

The Annual Dinner and AGM on November 22nd was a great success. We are most grateful to Dominic Grieve for his most interesting talk about his family history, to Ann Tennant for a lovely dinner and to all who attended. We were especially pleased to welcome representatives from Beaconsfield Library, Beaconsfield High School and Holtspur School, who were presented with copies of Robin Pedler's book, "The Free French: Beaconsfield and Africa". At the AGM following the dinner, the BTA committee was re-elected unanimously, Juliet Gorton stepped down as President and we appointed our new President Alan Walters and Vice-President Graham Corney.
