Alan Walters MBEThe BTA President, Alan Walters lost his battle with cancer in September 2017 and passed away peacefully in Wexham Park Hospital with his family by his bedside.
Alan was, as many of you will know, a founder member of the Beaconsfield Twinning Association. He was also the BTA Chairman for many years and I can't recall a time when he wasn't actively involved with committee work or liaising with Langres on matters such as youth exchanges, visits, or projects that would enhance our mission as 'twinners' to foster better relationships between our towns. In later years Alan was our choice as President of Beaconsfield Twinning, a role he filled with dedication and enthusiasm to the very end. As you may recall, BTA's 20th Anniversary last year was celebrated with a visit from our friends in Langres who were surprised and delighted by the exquisite model of the Langres Town Hall created by Bekonscot to mark that occasion. The model was Alan's idea, which he project managed from conception to completion, working with the team at Bekonscot to create an attraction worthy of a prominent place in one the world's most renown model villages: a place to inspire and delight families and young children. A fitting tribute to a man who saw the value in better community relationships and committed his energy and enthusiasm to that purpose. But Alan's contribution went far beyond his involvement with Twinning. Alan had also been a South Bucks District Councillor for the past sixteen years and served as a Beaconsfield Town Councillor for fourteen years. During that period Alan had worked tirelessly to serve the best interests of the residents he represented. Alan held many positions within the Town and District Councils too; serving as Town Mayor in 2004 and Chairman of the District Council between 2010 and 2013. He made Beaconsfield his home for over twenty-five years with his wife, Sharon, and their children Julia and Alice. Alan was awarded the MBE in 2015 for his services to the Community ofBeaconsfield. These few photos are a tribute to his work for and dedication to Beaconsfield Twinning. |
